FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

PHILIP HANDS AND GEOFFREY HIGHLAND CRAFTS CREATE NEW TARTAN FOR DEBCONF ATTENDEES IN EDINBURGH

The Debian conference team is proud to announce the creation of a new tartan, with the first batch being woven in time for their upcoming international conference in Edinburgh this coming June.

Software consultant Philip Hands and tartan designer Alasdair Macleod of Geoffrey (Tailor) Highland Crafts have combined efforts to design and weave the new tartan. Their design includes red to reflect the colour of Debian's swirl logo, the black and yellow of Linux's penguin logo, and electric blue. If read as Morse code, the tartan's stripes spell out 'Debian'.

Debian is a free computer operating system. Volunteers from all over the world work together to create and maintain Debian software. Translated into 27 languages, and supporting a huge range of computer types, Debian calls itself the universal operating system.

DebConf is the annual Debian developers' conference. The conference provides the opportunity for hundreds of developers and contributors as well as others interested in Debian to gather in person and work together more closely. This year's international conference will be held in Edinburgh in June, with Debian Day on Saturday 16 June 2007 free for anyone interested to come and learn more about Debian and free software from the visiting experts.

More information about Debian Day and DebConf can be found on the website at http://www.debianday.org/

The tartan is being woven at Geoffrey (Tailor)'s mill on Castlehill. Press members interested in access to view the start of weaving are invited to contact Geoffrey (Tailor) Highland Crafts for more information.
