Title: Use of free software in education
Speaker: Knut Yrvin, Trolltech Ltd
Since the millennium it has been a dramatic change in use of software in education. One of the most prominent changes are use of free software. Knut Yrvin will do a walk trough of some of the most popular educational software shipped with Debian GNU/Linux. Yrvin will show Gcompris and Stopmotion used in primary schools. At the end he shows mobile phone programming with Qt and Qtopia on Greenphone.
About the speaker
Knut Yrvin is the co-founder of Skolelinux project and a Community Manager at Trolltech. Skolelinux is now a part of Debian Edu. Hes career started at Telenor, a phone carrier. Yrvin has graduated with engineering degree in electronics and Masters degree in Computer Science & System Development in the 90ties. He has worked in various businesses from telecom to banking, from consultancy to education.
