= Edinburgh prepares for free DebianDay software conference =

Edinburgh, UK, 12 June 2007 – The [http://debian.org/ Debian Project], the team behind the free Debian GNU/Linux operating system, is inviting members of the public to DebianDay, a free one-day software users’ conference at the Teviot Row House, Bristo Square, Edinburgh EH8 9AL, between 10am and 5pm on Saturday 16 June 2007.

The conference aims to give free advice to individuals who are interested in free and open-source software. Interested persons are asked to [http://debianday.org/ register in advance].

"The non-profit event is organised entirely by volunteers," says Steve Kemp, a developer who attended another recent Debian Project conference. "The result is a friendly, personal atmosphere in which it's fun to meet the people behind the project and find answers to questions without being regarded as potential customer at all times."

In anticipation of the event, conference team member Phil Hands is working with designer Alasdair Macleod of Geoffrey (Tailor) Highland Crafts to weave a new tartan. Items made from this tartan will be available at the conference site.
